Common Questions About Performances

How long is the belly dance show?

Generally, the bellydancing performance is 15-25 minutes in length. The belly dancer may use props such as zills (Arabic finger cymbals), veils, swords, and candles. Folkloric numbers may also be incorporated. When appropriate, the show may include audience participation. Ask Shiraz which Dance Package will work best for your occasion!

Is the performance appropriate for children?

Yes! The belly dancer provides a family friendly performance. She knows children love to dance!

Who provides the music selection?

The belly dancer will provide a music CD, however the sound system should be provided by the venue. Generally speaking, louder is better. Live musicians can be arranged upon request.

What about the music selection?

According to your music preferences, the selection can range from classical Arabic to modern Arabic pop, even fusion or your favorite song!

Is tipping the belly dancer appropriate?

Of course! Tips will graciously be accepted unless the host of the show has requested otherwise. The tips may be tossed above the dancers head in a “money shower”, tucked into the sides of her costume belt, or included with the payment after the show. Especially in belly dancing, tipping is a customary and fun way to show the dancer you enjoy her performance, along with clapping and zaghareeting (Arabic ululation)!

What if my special occasion warrants more than one belly dancer?

Ask about booking a duet of belly dancers, multiple solo belly dancers, or a belly dance troupe. Shiraz will be happy to provide a spectacular show including the area’s best professional dancers, troupes and musicians for stage performances, large venues, or otherwise to accommodate your special event.

How far in advance should I book the dancer?

Sooner is wiser than later! But if the performance time and details are negotiable, then often last minute shows can be scheduled. Please keep in mind that Friday and Saturday evenings during holidays and wedding season, which is generally May through September, tend to book quickly.

What about out-of-town/international shows?

Shiraz is happy to travel to your location but lives in Delaware, so shows outside of the Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland tri-state area will need to be booked adequately in advance. Please be aware that additional charges may apply.
